Yay, it’s December!

All in the  kindergarten class seemed excited when this month started.  I asked them one-by-one what makes them excited for December. Some answered that they would love to see snow. Some said that they liked Christmas Day. They looked forward to receiving presents.

Christmas is one of the most celebrated holidays around the world during this month.  It reminds us of God’s great love for all humanity by giving us His Son, Christ Jesus, as a gift, and being born on earth in order to bring peace. The kindergarten students have enjoyed learning about the events of Jesus’ birth.  They are reminded that this is a season to be joyful, to be thankful for everything, and to spread God’s love through giving and sharing, not only with their families and friends, but most especially with the people who are in need.

When asked to describe Christmas, some of the children explained it as Jesus’ birthday, and that it’s the time when they see Christmas trees, colorful lights, and many decorations. When I asked them what present they wanted to receive, most wanted toys. One kid’s answer of, ‘‘anything’’, really touched my heart.  I thought that at a very young age, the child’s answer was mature.  Any gift was fine, as long as it came from the heart. And that is the essence of Christmas – it is about love and giving.

December is also one of the most awaited months of the year for our school because of our Christmas program. All of our students from kindergarten to junior high school have the chance to showcase every God-given talent they have through their presentations. Their parents and relatives are  invited to come and watch.

Generally, it takes us more than a month of preparation and practice . Teachers hold meetings to choose the songs and dances. They also make the creative costumes and props that will be used . The kindergarten class was excited to try on their costumes and enjoyed practicing in them. All students are trying to do their best on their song-and-dance presentations during every rehearsal.

The Praise Band Club will give a live performance during the program.  We are especially proud of the newer members.  For some of them, the instruments they have been practicing with is their first musical instrument.  They have been developing their musical skills and will be joining the main group during their performance during the

program. Every time they practice as a group, their excitement grows.  (There are only four more days to go before the Christmas program.)

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
